WHAT TO EXPECT
Before Your Appointment:
In preparation for your appointment please wear loose, comfortable clothes that can be pulled up to allow access to the legs and forearms. Gowns are available in the treatment room if necessary. We also recommend having something to eat in the few hours before your appointment.
We are located at the corner of East 18th and Oak. There is free parking available in the South Eugene Professional Plaza parking lot. When you arrive please wait in the sitting area as there may be a patient finishing up their session. We will come and check you in. If it's your first time seeing us please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out necessary paperwork. You can download and print our New Patient Questionnaire and bring it with you to your first appointment.
During Your Treatment:
Your acupuncturist will begin by getting to know you and discussing your physical and emotional health. We look over your health history and talk about your current condition; what brought you in. We will take your pulse to help in our evaluation and we'll explain what to expect during your treatment. Then you can lay down and we will apply the acupuncture needles. Sensations are quite common during acupuncture. You may feel a pinching sensation or a dull ache at the needle site. This is expected and means the point is being activated. Most sensations subside after a few moments often leaving you with no feeling of the needle at all. Your comfort is important to us so if there is any pain please let your acupuncturist know. Once the needles are in there is a relaxing period of approximately 25 minutes. During this time you can listen to some soothing music, free your mind from your busy day and let the acupuncture do its work. It's not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during their relaxation.
Your initial appointment can last up to an hour and a half, with all subsequent visits lasting between 45 minutes to an hour. Payment is due at the end of your session.
After Your Visit:
The effects of acupuncture can start immediately. After your treatment you could experience better sleep, higher energy, more focus, less stress and a reduction in pain. Some people report feeling sleepy or spacey after a treatment so plan your day accordingly. We do not recommend heavy activity following your appointment. Make sure you drink water and eat something to help your body with the physiological responses triggered by acupuncture.
On your next visit let your acupuncturist know what reactions your body had and what changes you have noticed so we can properly adjust your next treatment.
